Acts 2: The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[c]

22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[d] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:

“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[e]

29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”’[f]

36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Louise and Pastor Sammy Sept. 26, 2024

Louise and Pastor teaching from the Book of John, and especially the meaning and application of love in Scripture.
Among some of the subjects are the love walk and what God expects you to do.

Louise and Pastor Sammy on the Books of John, Sept. 26, 2024

The books of John are addressed largely to Christians. Louise pointed to some examples in this lesson.

See for example 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

See also 1 John 1:6-10

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

 and one John 1:23

23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”[a]

Darkness and light are examined as elements of righteousness.

Need to stay well abiding with God. Also continue studying and address the relationship you have with God.

All of the above are explained by Louise.

When walking in the light it is important to stay up on repentance. Don’t sit on it overnight or a longer period.

There is a difference between habitual sin and sinning occasionally. If you sin or stumble, you have an advocate who will stand by you, Jesus.

A lifestyle of sin breaks fellowship. You need to practice repentance.

[NOTE: at this point the taping broke up and I started a new video. In that new tape Louise continues with1 Corinthians 13; sorry, technical error by your friendly technic!]

Louise and Pastor Sammy Hughes, Sept. 26, 2024

Louise and Pastor Sammy Hughes, New Life Outreach Church, Cottondale, Alabama, teach on the truth of God’s word, especially important to understand at this time of the year (October, November) when the powers of darkness appear, usually at Halloween time.

Over $12 billion spent on Halloween last year, and probably more this year!

Amazing.

People of all stripes engage in things that are demonic.

The truth of God’s word is given in Deuteronomy below.

This time of the year, especially Halloween, the powers of darkness appear.

Last year more than $12 billion was spent on Halloween alone. Amazing.

People engaging in things that are demonic are described in many places in the Old Testament .

Let’s look at Scripture starting with some passages from the Book of Deuteronomy 18.

Occult Practices

When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.

Many detestable and abominable practices are described.

God’s word doesn’t want you to act like Pagan natives.

God wanted Israel to be the light of the world.

Do not believe or act like pagans described in Deuteronomy.

Louise spoke about witches, especially from the presence and testimony of one ex-witch who joined her in earlier videos in this series.

The term Druid City describing Tuscaloosa is explained.

Examples of sacrificial cultures are examined. Some of these cultures sacrificed children fairly commonly.

The palm reader on the road to Moundville just south of here from Tuscaloosa was mentioned as an example of the supernatural in our own culture.

Christians need to get into the word of God keep us from these supernational practices.

One needs to read and listen to the truth in Scripture.

The more of the word of God that you have within you the easier it is to discern it.

Louise Teaching on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, May 6, 2024

Today’s teaching was on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Louise explains she grew up basically ignorant of the Holy Spirit, although she faithfully attended Southern Baptist Churches in Florida while growing up.

But, as she learned, the Holy Spirit is a leader and teacher in the Church and fills many other categories in what He does for us. He can be and in fact represents many things in a believer’s life.

Louise lists most of them in this presentation as the describes the actions of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

She asks rhetorically “how does the Holy Spirit appear in our lives?” He plays a huge role in our lives, most of them described in the video.

Some include bringing us into the new birth.

When you receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, that is the new birth. At this time the Holy Spirit comes to live within you.

There are two Baptisms in your life as a new Christian. Go to Acts 2 and read the entire chapter. Then continue with notes to this video below.

Louise Teaches from the Book of Romans, April 26, 2024

Louise teaches from the Book of Romans.
God works through your Spirit. Your other two sources of knowledge, wisdom, and power are your mind and your body. These two can be reached through Satan. But your Spirit, once reborn with the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, is untouchable.
Butttt, and a big but, your body and your mind (sometimes called your soul) are indeed reachable to Satan.
YOU have to determine how to reject him for he comes to steal, kill and destroy.
Read 1 John 1:9 often. It is important to go here to remind you of God’s forgiveness.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Read full chapter

Jesus Teaching

Louise presents a story of getting off drugs in her post-Covid recovery where she spent almost three weeks at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
She embraced God’s will to heal her completely. Lots of other examples are told, such as moving beyond alcoholism.
She told the story of her son Carlton and of God’s plan for her and husband Larry by giving them Carlton almost thirty-three years ago.
And she concludes that there is no situation that God hasn’t planned for in your lives.
